At the 2018 SESAH Awards Ceremony held in Manhattan, Kansas, in October, we announced that the recipient of the 2018 Best of the South Preservation Award was the Augusta Symphony for the Miller Theater Rehabilitation project in Augusta, Georgia. Completed in 1940, the Miller Theater is a beautiful Art Moderne-style building with seating for over 1,600 patrons, making it the second largest theater in Georgia, behind only Atlanta’s Fox Theater. Closing in 1984, the theater was vacant for decades before a nearly $25 million renovation, led by Lord Aeck Sargent, was completed from 2016-2017. The state-of-the-art community venue now houses the symphony orchestra, stage, and other artistic performances. Congratulations to everyone involved with this fabulous preservation project in Augusta, Georgia!
